About feed delivery

Feed delivery is a branch of Food Standards Scotland and the Competent Authority for enforcing animal feed legislation in Scotland. We deliver Official Controls to ensure feed safety and protect consumers.

The Feed Delivery branch works with local authorities across Scotland to carry out feed official controls under a delegated model.

What we do

We protect public health by reducing risks in the food chain and helping ensure food is safe and authentic.

Our Feed Officers inspect and sample registered businesses involved in the manufacture, use and sale of animal feed, including:

  • farms
  • food and feed industry
  • pet food manufacturers

Our functions

We:

  • implement and oversee feed hygiene regulations to maintain high safety standards
  • support policy development to improve animal feed legislation
  • provide expert advice on animal feed hygiene and safety to help the Scottish public make informed choices
  • protect public and consumer health by mitigating safety risks at every stage of the food chain, starting with animal feed
  • ensure evidence-based decision-making through rigorous scientific research and data analysis
  • establish trust and maintain regulatory compliance across the industry
  • uphold transparency in our actions and decision-making processes
  • deliver official controls across Scotland, including delegated responsibilities to local authorities
