Under the Freedom of Information Act, I wish to request the following:
1. How many slaughterhouses / abattoirs are registered / approved by FSS?
2. How many of the total slaughterhouses / abattoirs in Scotland kill pigs?
3. How many of the total slaughterhouses / abattoirs that kill pigs are fitted out with high concentration CO2 gas stunning equipment?
4. What percentage of pigs are stunned prior to slaughter using high concentration CO2 gas?
1. 24 slaughterhouses are approved by FSS.
2. 12 of the total slaughterhouses in Scotland kill pigs.
3. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide this information due to the low numbers of slaughterhouses in Scotland that kill pigs with high concentration CO2 gas. Section 33(1)(b) (commercial interests) of FOISA applies to this information.
4.The percentage of pigs that are stunned prior to slaughter using high concentration CO2 gas was 86.17% for the period from 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2022.
